I Quit Going to Church

Dear Church,

Last week GC’s pastoral staff (and a couple others) had the privilege of gathering with Nazarene ministry leaders from all over the US and Canada for the M19 Conference – a quadrennial (every 4 years) conference (thus the “19” – as in 2019) focused on our denominational mission (thus the “M” — mission) “to make Christlike disciples in the nations.” The theme of the conference was “Unleash the Gospel.”

The Apostle Paul wrote, “For I am not ashamed of this Good News (gospel) about Christ. It is the power of God at work, saving everyone who believes—the Jew first and also the Gentile.” Rom. 1:16

The best thing that can happen in/to/for our broken world is for the Gospel to be “unleashed.” The gospel isn’t just the message of going to heaven when we die; it’s the message of God’s hope-full, healing, life-giving way here and now (“your Kingdom come; your will be done ON EARTH as it is in heaven”). And it’s not just a message that we tell (although we need to tell it); it’s a message that we live!!!

Go ahead, allow God to unleash the gospel in your life and in your world!!! Don’t settle for being a person that “goes to church” (regularly or occasionally). Be the church!!! Embrace and embody this great Good News of Christ!!! Jesus is the hope of the world!!!
