I Quit Going to Church

Dear Church, What a full (full of both activity and meaning) week this is! There is so much going on around here: Wednesday night at 6:30 – egg stuffing to get ready for Saturday Thursday, beginning at 8:00 pm – 24 Hours of Prayer Friday, we conclude our 24 Hours of Prayer together with our Good Friday Night of Worship at 7:00 pm. Saturday morning 9:30-11:30 is our Easter Eggstravaganza – we’re expecting HUNDREDS of guests (if it doesn’t get washed out) And Sunday – Easter! – celebration services at 9:00 and 10:45! I’d like to invite you to fully engage as much as possible, but here’s my challenge. As you engage in the “activity” don’t lose the “meaning.” We don’t want to be an Easter “activity” people – we want to truly be an Easter people – a people who live in the reality and power of Jesus life, death and resurrection. The Apostle Paul said it like this, “I want to know Christ – yes, to know the power of his resurrection and participation in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, and so, somehow, attaining to the resurrection from the dead.” Phil. 3:10-11 Certainly “being the church” has implications for “doing” – as Christ’s church we actively engage our world – but that “doing” must flow out of “being” – being the people of God as the life-giving power of Christ forms us and flows through us.   Living into Easter, Joel
